A suspected ritual killing has shocked residents of Domeabra Old Town in the Ga South Municipality, leaving the community gripped with fear and urgently calling for government and police intervention.
The deceased, known locally as ‘Taller’, a 50-year-old mason, was discovered brutally murdered inside an uncompleted building where he had been residing. According to preliminary police investigations, parts of his body were carefully removed, suggesting a ritualistic motive.
Eyewitness accounts and police findings indicate that the victim was ambushed and killed by unknown assailants, who specifically targeted certain body parts.
Assemblyman for Domeabra Electoral Area, Joseph Akrashie, who has been assisting the police, provided details to Adom News:
“Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that the suspects cut the deceased’s left heel and left thigh and removed all the veins in that part.”
The precision of the mutilation and extraction of veins from the left lower limb suggests that the parts may have been taken for ritual purposes, believed in some circles to be used in making spiritual charms or for illicit wealth rituals.
The Ghana Police Service Homicide Unit has taken over the case. The body has been transported to the Police Hospital Mortuary in Accra for autopsy, which is expected to confirm the exact cause of death and provide further forensic clues, including the type of instrument used.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the suspects remain at large.
The community is living in heightened terror, with many residents expressing fear that more attacks could follow.
Assemblyman Akrashie described the late ‘Taller’ as a familiar and peaceful figure in the neighborhood, saying the community is devastated by the nature of his death.
Residents are appealing for:
Increased police patrols and visibility
Immediate manhunt for the perpetrators
Protection for residents living near abandoned or isolated structures
Swift government intervention to prevent further attacks
The incident has reopened national conversations about ritual-related crimes and the security risks facing vulnerable communities in peri-urban settlements.
