A joint operation by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) and a regional security task force has led to the arrest of the proprietor of Suad Collections, a well-known fashion boutique in Tamale, over allegations of dealing in narcotic substances.
The raid, carried out in the Northern Regional capital on September 18, uncovered 2,250 wraps of a substance believed to be cannabis, along with quantities of opioids.
NACOC officials confirmed that the arrest is part of an intensified crackdown on the drug trade in the area. The suspect remains in custody, assisting investigators, while the confiscated substances have been dispatched for forensic testing.
Authorities reassured the public of their determination to combat narcotics trafficking and its associated crimes nationwide.
In a separate incident, NACOC reported the arrest of a British national and two Ghanaian partners at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after attempting to smuggle 38 kilograms of compressed material suspected to be cannabis into Ghana.
Security officers intercepted two suitcases during a routine check at the arrivals terminal. Inside, they discovered 25 slabs of the suspected narcotics concealed in hidden compartments.
Preliminary findings indicate the three suspects had collaborated to traffic the drugs, which were carefully packaged and marked in line with established international smuggling methods.
