The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested Isaac Duku, the Assembly Member for Tarkwa Bremang—widely known by his nickname Agoogi—over allegations of illegal mining and the unlawful diversion of a public road.

According to a police statement posted on Facebook, the arrest took place on July 19, 2025, at Dortaso near Tarkwa. It followed a complaint filed by concerned residents at the Bawdie Police Station five days earlier.

Residents alleged that Mr. Duku had unilaterally redirected a key access road serving the local community through his private property—without proper authorisation.

Subsequent investigations uncovered that the diverted road was being used for suspected illegal mining operations, allegedly under the direction of the Assembly Member himself.

Police confirmed that Mr. Duku is currently in custody and assisting with investigations. Authorities have promised to provide further updates as the case develops.

The arrest has triggered widespread calls from civil society groups and local leaders for a full investigation and firm legal action. Many are urging the police and regulatory agencies to hold all offenders accountable, stressing that public office should not shield individuals from the law.
