A district magistrate court in Tarkwa has sentenced a 20-year-old unemployed man to 18 months in prison after he admitted stealing a teacher’s Royal motorbike valued at GH¢12,000.
Johnathan Vondee pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted by District Magistrate Court Two, presided over by Mr Isaac Osei Asare.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah told the court that the complainant, Godfred Ansah, parked his motorbike at the Bonsa Tyre Factory on the Tarkwa–Takoradi highway at about 8:00am on 12 December 2025 before going to work.
When he returned at about 3:00pm, the motorbike was gone. The complainant suspected Vondee, searched for him without success and later reported the matter, the court heard.
Prosecutors said the complainant later received information on 31 December 2025 that Vondee had been arrested and was being held at the Tarkwa Railways Police Station. He then lodged a formal complaint at the Bonsa Police Station.
In his caution statement, police said Vondee admitted he had handed the motorbike to a person known only as “Black” to sell on his behalf.
On 1 January 2026, police recovered the motorbike after it was found abandoned near the Tarkwa Station, according to the prosecution.
Sergeant Yeboah said efforts are continuing to trace and arrest the suspect known as “Black” as investigations proceed.
