Two young men who attacked and robbed a resident of Aboso with a pair of scissors have been sentenced by the Tarkwa District Court Two.
The convicts—24-year-old Gilbert Mensah and 18-year-old Justice Mensah—admitted to stealing and causing harm. Gilbert was handed a two-year prison term, while Justice received 12 months’ imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, the victim, Kwame Batie, was waiting to buy food at Kofi’s Guest House in Aboso on April 24, 2025, when the attackers confronted him. The pair accused him of recording Justice in a drunken state the previous day, a claim Batie denied.
Gilbert then reached into Batie’s pocket and snatched GH¢1,900. Moments later, he brandished a pair of scissors, demanding that the victim also hand over his Techno Pop 30 mobile phone worth GH¢1,800. When Batie resisted, Gilbert stabbed him at the back of the head before making away with the phone.
A passerby rushed the bleeding victim to the police station, where he lodged a complaint and was referred for medical treatment.
Police later tracked down Gilbert and Justice at their hideout, but the stolen phone and money were never recovered.
Delivering the ruling, Presiding Judge Isaac Osei Asare convicted the two on their own plea, stressing the seriousness of violent robberies in the community.
