A 19-year-old unemployed man has been remanded into prison custody by the Asante Abuakwa Circuit Court after admitting to stabbing a man during an attempted break-in.
Aaron Attah pleaded guilty to three charges – unlawful entry, attempted stealing and causing harm – when he appeared before the court in the Atwima Nwabiagya South Municipality. He is to reappear on 18 December this year before presiding judge Ms Rosemond Dodua Agyiri.
According to the prosecutor, Police Detective Inspector Alexander Agbekpornu, the case involves complainant Owusu Boakye Yiadom, a disc jockey living at Nketia, and Attah, who resides at Adankwame near Abuakwa.
The court heard that at about 11:00 on 2 December this year, Mr Yiadom was on his way to work and decided to pass by his mother’s house. On arrival, he heard an unusual noise inside and became suspicious.
He moved closer and saw Attah trying to force open the main room door. Mr Yiadom waited outside, observing. Moments later, Attah was seen descending from the ceiling in an apparent attempt to escape.
When the complainant rushed in to apprehend him, Attah pulled a knife and stabbed him in the right shoulder and stomach, causing him to bleed heavily.
The accused then fled the scene, but neighbours joined in a chase and helped arrest him. He was subsequently handed over to officers at the Asuofua Police Station.
Mr Yiadom was first taken to the Suntreso Government Hospital and later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), where he remains on admission receiving treatment.
The prosecutor told the court that in his caution statement, Attah admitted the offences. After further investigations, he was charged and brought before the circuit court, which ordered his remand into prison custody pending his next appearance.
