Three teenagers who staged a brazen morning robbery in Boubai, located in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region, have been convicted and sentenced to prison following swift police and community action.

In a statement released on Wednesday, July 9, the Ashanti Regional Police Command confirmed that the suspects—Mamudu Issah, Samuel Takyi, and Alhassan Abubakari, all aged 18—were apprehended the same day they carried out the robbery on July 1, 2025.

The young men, armed with machetes and riding unregistered motorbikes, reportedly terrorized residents between 7:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., seizing mobile phones, bags, and cash from their victims.

Their arrest was made possible thanks to the rapid intervention of community volunteers in the nearby Aboabo area, who not only restrained the suspects but also recovered 10 stolen phones and three bags believed to have been snatched during the attack.

On Tuesday, July 8, the suspects were arraigned before the Atasemanso Circuit Court, where they each pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit robbery and seven counts of robbery. In addition, Mamudu Issah admitted to a separate charge of causing harm.

Issah received a 10-year prison sentence for each robbery count and an extra three years for causing harm, to run concurrently. His accomplices, Takyi and Abubakari, were each sentenced to 10 years behind bars, also to be served concurrently. The trio has been transferred to the Central Prisons in Kumasi to begin their sentences.

The police thanked the public for its vigilance and praised the volunteers for their decisive action, urging continued community support in the fight against crime.
