The three—Francis Baidoo, a 30-year-old driver; Wisdom Aleki, a 24-year-old tricycle rider; and Mohammed Baba, a 38-year-old Nigerian beautician—pleaded not guilty but were convicted at the end of their trial.

A Nigerian national and two Ghanaians have been sentenced to a total of 50 years in prison by the Assin-Kyerewere Circuit Court for an attempted robbery at Wawase-Semanhyia in the Assin North District.

The three—Francis Baidoo, a 30-year-old driver; Wisdom Aleki, a 24-year-old tricycle rider; and Mohammed Baba, a 38-year-old Nigerian beautician—pleaded not guilty but were convicted at the end of their trial.

A fourth suspect, Francis Larbi, remains at large, with the police actively pursuing him.

Presiding over the case, Judge Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey sentenced Baidoo and Aleki to 15 years each for conspiracy to commit a crime and attempted robbery. Baba received a 20-year sentence for conspiracy, causing harm, and attempted robbery.

According to Prosecutor Chief Inspector Gilbert Abagna Anyongo, the trio conspired to rob a cocoa-purchasing clerk, Emmanuel Obese, on December 19, 2024. To execute their plan, they hired a Toyota Vitz from Accra Mall and traveled to Wawase-Semanhyia.

Arriving around 1:00 a.m., they were armed with a short gun and other weapons. However, their scheme was thwarted when a vigilant resident spotted them and raised an alarm. The convicts fled into the bush, but the local community swiftly organized a manhunt, leading to the capture of three suspects while Larbi managed to escape.

During the chase, Baba and Baidoo allegedly attacked commuters, inflicted knife wounds, and robbed them. Despite their resistance, they were eventually subdued and handed over to the police.

Authorities continue to track down the fugitive, urging the public to assist with any information leading to his arrest.
