An Accra Circuit Court has remanded a trader named Prosper Otoo for robbing a woman at knifepoint. Otoo faces charges related to the robbery of Madam Naomi Kwarteng, who reported that her handbag, containing money, a mobile phone, and personal items, was stolen.

He denied the charges and claimed he did not conspire with an accomplice, who is still at large.

Presiding Judge Mrs. Susan Eduful has scheduled Otoo's next appearance for February 12, 2025. The incident reportedly occurred on November 16, 2024, when Madam Kwarteng was attacked while heading to work. Otoo, riding as a passenger on a motorbike, allegedly brandished a cutlass and threatened her, leading her to hand over her designer handbag worth GHC1,500, which contained a Samsung phone valued at GHC1,000, GHC150 in cash, her bank card, and four passport-sized photos. The assailants fled the scene on their motorbike.

Following the robbery, Madam Kwarteng informed the Amasaman Police, who discovered that other victims had reported similar robberies in the area, indicating a possible pattern. On the same day, police officers on patrol recognized Otoo and two others near Stadium Junction, leading to a chase and their eventual capture with the assistance of bystanders.

During the police investigation, Madam Kwarteng identified Otoo as her attacker. Although Otoo's lawyer requested bail, citing his willingness to attend trial and reliable sureties, the prosecution opposed this, highlighting Otoo's potential threat to society due to his alleged involvement in multiple criminal activities.
