A 42-year-old trader has been remanded into custody by an Accra Circuit Court after being accused of stealing mobile phones and a tracking device worth GH¢38,500.
The suspect, Joshua Agbey, is alleged to have taken a black backpack containing three phones — an iPhone 16 Pro Max, a Samsung A55, a Samsung A54 — as well as a tracker belonging to Aneesh Kumar Adukkadukkan, an Indian national working in Ghana.
The alleged theft took place on 21 September 2025 during a reception hosted by the Indian Community in Ghana at the WAEC compound in Cantonments.
Prosecutors said the complainant, an accounts manager, left his backpack on a table but later realised it had vanished.
A police team traced the stolen items first to Kwame Nkrumah Circle, but the search there proved unsuccessful. The tracker eventually led officers to Kasoa Amanfrom, where Agbey was arrested.
Investigators told the court that Agbey confessed to slipping into the event without invitation and stealing the bag. Despite that, he entered a not-guilty plea to the charge of stealing.
Presiding judge Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah instructed prosecutors to file and serve all necessary documents on Agbey’s legal team. The case has been adjourned to 19 November 2025.
The prosecution indicated that additional information would be made available as investigations progress.
