A 30-year-old trader has been arrested after police discovered five large sacks filled with dangerous drugs and an unlicensed firearm during a raid in Sabon-Zongo, a suburb of Accra.
The suspect, identified as Abdul Amidu Mohammed, is currently on trial for unlawful possession of narcotics and a firearm, according to the Accra Regional Police Command.
At a press briefing on Monday, May 26, Regional Commander DCOP Duuti Tuaruku disclosed that the operation was based on credible intelligence gathered by the Accra Regional Intelligence Team.
Among the seized items were high-potency “red” tramadol tablets, a substance known locally as “Volume 10,” and a pump-action shotgun.
“The suspect has already been arraigned and is facing multiple charges, including possession of banned substances and an unregistered weapon,” DCOP Tuaruku said.
He praised the role of public collaboration in tackling drug and weapons-related crimes and urged residents to continue providing tips to law enforcement.
“This arrest is a clear example of how community intelligence can lead to effective policing. We encourage citizens to stay alert and report suspicious behaviour,” he added.
