The accused, Nana Kofi Abeka Anderson, a 34-year-old IT technician, and Nana Kofi Baah I, Gyaasehene of Gomoa Fete, are facing charges of conspiracy to steal.

Two men, including a traditional leader, have been remanded by an Accra Circuit Court in connection with the theft of a Kia Forte valued at GH¢200,000.

The accused, Nana Kofi Abeka Anderson, a 34-year-old IT technician, and Nana Kofi Baah I, Gyaasehene of Gomoa Fete, are facing charges of conspiracy to steal.

Anderson also faces additional counts for stealing and forging a national ID card and driver’s licence under the name Essel Kofi Elvis. A third suspect, identified only as Yakubu, is on the run.

Prosecutors say the case began in March this year when Anderson rented the car from complainant Hazel Yamoah Kyei, a car rental manager, for two days. He provided forged identification documents and requested delivery to his Haatso residence.

When the rental expired, both Anderson’s phone and the car’s tracking system had been disabled. Investigations later linked Anderson to another case, and during questioning, he admitted to handing the vehicle over to Nana Kofi Baah I at Kakraba. The traditional leader allegedly passed it to Yakubu, after which the two shared GH¢16,000 from the proceeds of the transaction.

Checks with the National Identification Authority and the DVLA confirmed the documents used were fake. Both accused are also connected to a separate case involving the recovery of four other vehicles and have not assisted police in retrieving the Kia Forte.

They are set to reappear in court on August 21, 2025, while police continue the search for Yakubu.
