Two people captured in a viral video assaulting an 11-year-old girl have been arrested following an operation by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team.
A police brief named the suspects as 75-year-old Grace Mensah, the child’s grandmother, and 25-year-old Godfred Osei Akoto. They were picked up at Agona Jamasi in the Ashanti Region.
The girl has since been rescued, and both suspects have been handed over to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with ongoing investigations.
Police said the incident came to their attention after a disturbing video circulated widely on TikTok and other social media platforms, sparking public outcry and calls for immediate action.
Preliminary enquiries traced the first upload of the footage to a TikTok account bearing the name Tina Adjei, with the handle @tina.adjei7.
The video shows a young man physically assaulting a girl in the presence of an elderly woman, later identified as her grandmother.
Acting on intelligence, officers moved to Agona Jamasi, where Grace Mensah was arrested. She confirmed to investigators that she is the grandmother of the 11-year-old victim.
Further police work led to the arrest of Godfred Osei Akoto, identified as the man seen in the clip beating the child.
In his statement to police, Osei Akoto claimed that on 6 December 2025 the girl, who lives with her grandmother, left home and failed to return. He said he later found her shortly after midnight, at about 00:12 hours, near the local Presbyterian School.
He told officers that the grandmother gave him permission to “punish” the child, which resulted in the assault and the recording and circulation of the video.
According to the police brief, Grace Mensah corroborated this account during interrogation.
