The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested two men after officers allegedly found a loaded pistol and dozens of rounds of ammunition during a routine patrol at Kwame Nkrumah Circle.

The suspects, 35-year-old pillion rider Kwame Boateng and 52-year-old motorbike rider Fatahu Alhassan, were picked up on Saturday, 20 December 2025.

In a statement, Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region, said a patrol team became suspicious when they saw the pair riding a Royal motorbike with a faded number plate.

Officers moved to stop them for checks, but the men reportedly ignored the signal and attempted to escape, prompting a short chase.

Police say a subsequent search uncovered:

A pistol with serial number 39363 and the inscription “CS HEAND SUH”

72 rounds of ammunition

One iPhone, one LG smartphone, one Samsung phone, one BlackBerry phone and one keypad phone

Two wristwatches

The men have been cautioned and are in police custody, assisting with investigations.

According to the statement, the seized items have been retained as exhibits while detectives work to identify the owners of the mobile phones and trace the source of the weapon and ammunition.

The Accra Regional Command has appealed to the public to continue sharing credible information with law enforcement to help tackle crime and improve safety in the capital.
