The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has arrested two suspects linked to a violent robbery and carjacking at Mpatasie, near St. Anthony Hospital in the Ashanti Region.

Police identified the suspects as Issaka Jamal, 30, and Kwadwo Badu, 40. They were captured on Saturday, November 8, following a dramatic chase along the Ofankor–St John’s stretch of the Accra–Nsawam Highway.

According to police, the pair attempted to flee during the operation but were subdued after a brief confrontation. One suspect suffered a gunshot wound, while the other sustained minor injuries. Both are receiving treatment at the Police Hospital in Accra.

Investigators say the incident occurred on November 7, when a group of armed men attacked two people travelling in an unregistered silver Hyundai Tucson (DV-5357-Z) at Mpatasie.

The victims were reportedly robbed of GH¢120,000, three mobile phones, identity cards, work tools, and other personal belongings. The assailants then fled the scene in the victims’ vehicle.

A follow-up operation by the CID led to the recovery of the stolen Hyundai Tucson, along with GH¢5,900 in cash, a customised number plate reading “Congo-1-24,” and other items believed to have been used in the crime. All exhibits have been secured at the Police Headquarters in Accra.

Authorities have confirmed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects linked to the gang and to dismantle the criminal network behind the attack.

In a statement, the Police reaffirmed their commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at curbing violent crime across the country.
