Two men wanted in connection with an alleged gold smuggling syndicate have surrendered to authorities, the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has confirmed.
The suspects, identified as Abdul Karim Alhassan and Sadique Abubakar, were earlier declared wanted over their suspected role in an illicit gold export network.
GoldBod said the pair voluntarily turned themselves in and have since been arraigned before the High Court. They are facing charges including gold smuggling, conspiracy to smuggle gold and transporting gold without a licence.
Although the court granted them bail, both men remain in custody until their bail conditions are satisfied.
Authorities say the investigation is still ongoing, with two more suspects — Mohammed Afsal Puthalan and Mohammed Refeeq Nandoli, also known as Salam — still at large.
GoldBod is urging the public to assist law enforcement with any credible information that could lead to their arrest.
A reward of GHS1 million remains on offer for information leading to the capture of each fugitive.
