The Circuit Court in Accra has remanded two Guinean nationals and granted bail to a Nigerian in an alleged scheme to defraud a Cameroonian businessman of over US$650,000 in a fake gold transaction.
Presided over by Her Honour Basilia Adjei-Tawiah, the court ordered Alpha Yagouba Diallo, 34, and Aboubacar Sidik Sanoh, 50, into custody, while granting GH¢50,000 bail to Oluwatosin Macdonald Onanuga, with two sureties. One surety must justify the bail with property, and both must reside in Ghana. Onanuga must also surrender his passport and report weekly to investigators.
The prosecution, led by ASP Christopher Asante Ahoku, told the court that complainant Basil Njingti Fonkor, a Dubai-based Cameroonian, had paid US$62,000 as part payment for 10 kilograms of gold sold by the accused in The Gambia. On August 5, 2025, while transiting through Kotoka International Airport, Diallo and Sanoh allegedly attempted to abscond with the consignment, which, upon inspection, contained only three hammerheads.
The items were certified as non-gold by M&C Gold and Precious Metals Laboratory. Onanuga allegedly facilitated the accused’s movements in Ghana on the instructions of an associate known only as “Kieta.”
The court has adjourned the case to August 28, 2025, and directed the registrar to secure a French interpreter for the two Guinean accused. Investigations are ongoing.
