Police say the suspects created a fake account under the name “Sheriff Mahama” and used it while presenting themselves as the president’s son.

The Ghana Police Service in Yendi has arrested a man and a woman for allegedly impersonating Sharaf Mahama on TikTok, in what police describe as part of a wider clampdown on online impersonation and related cyber offences.

Police say the suspects created a fake account under the name “Sheriff Mahama” and used it while presenting themselves as the president’s son. The account is reported to have attracted more than 7,500 followers and thousands of likes.

The male suspect has been named as Abdul Rahaman Zakaria, with investigators still assessing the extent of the female suspect’s involvement.

Both suspects remain in custody and are assisting with investigations. Police say they will be taken to court in due course.
