The Accra Circuit Court 10, presided over by Justice Evelyn Asamoah, has remanded two police officers accused of involvement in the theft of 16 CZ assault rifles from the Ghana Police Service armory.
Lance Corporal William Atia Asitanga (32) and Lance Corporal Sulemana Zanya Abdul-Rahman (27) appeared in court on charges of stealing and abetment to steal. Both pleaded not guilty.
According to the prosecution, led by DSP Emmanuel Nyamekye, the incident occurred in March 2024 at the National Counter Terrorism Department in Accra, where Asitanga served as an armourer with sole responsibility for managing the department’s weapons. An internal audit revealed the rifles were missing, and Asitanga could not account for them.
Investigations allegedly linked him to the theft, while Abdul-Rahman, stationed at Asiwa in the Bekwai District, Ashanti Region, is accused of aiding and abetting.
The court ordered both officers to be held in custody as police continue their investigations. They are set to reappear on August 20, 2025.
