Police in Amanfro, under the Weija Division, have arrested two suspected robbers after a dawn attack on passengers near Mallam Junction on Thursday, October 16, 2025.

According to a police statement, four men were reportedly robbing commuters when officers stormed the scene after an intelligence tip-off.

The suspects attempted to flee, but three of them — 42-year-old Stephen Amoani, 30-year-old Osei Antwi, and a third man identified as Kwame Mike — were arrested. One suspect, named as Kofi Sammy, allegedly fled with a pump-action gun.

Police say a cutlass was recovered from Osei Antwi, while the suspects were also found with a black Honda CR-V bearing trade licence DV 3145-2025, three gallons of akpeteshie, GH¢12,055 in cash, and three mobile phones — a Samsung A05, iPhone 16, and an Itel handset — believed to be stolen.

However, suspect Kwame Mike escaped from custody after requesting to use the washroom. The officer who escorted him is now under administrative investigation.

On October 20, Amoani and Antwi were arraigned before the Weija Circuit Court. The charges were read in Twi, and both pleaded not guilty. They were remanded in police custody to reappear on November 10, 2025.

Police say efforts are underway to rearrest the two suspects still at large — Kwame Mike and Kofi Sammy.

The vehicle and other recovered items remain in police custody as evidence.

The Accra Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue sharing credible information to support efforts to combat crime.
