The Bibiani District Court has remanded two men into police custody in connection with the alleged stealing and murder of a two-year-old girl at Sefwi Awaso in the Western North Region.

The accused persons, Sumaila Atta and Daniel Chimaobi, are facing criminal charges following the death of the child, identified as Denisah Neomina.

Appearing before His Worship Lord Delvin Essandoh, the two were remanded to enable the Police to continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the alleged offences.

Accused face murder and child stealing charges

According to the charges presented before the court, Sumaila Atta, the first accused, is being prosecuted for allegedly stealing the two-year-old girl and murdering her.

His alleged accomplice, Daniel Chimaobi, has been charged with abetment of child stealing and abetment of murder.

The case arises from an incident at Sefwi Awaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, which has reportedly generated concern among residents following news of the child's death.

Court directs Police to seek Attorney-General's advice

During the proceedings, the presiding judge directed the prosecutor, Detective Inspector Daniel Ansah, to ensure that the case docket is forwarded to the Attorney-General's Department for advice.

The directive is intended to allow the Attorney-General's Department to examine the investigative materials and provide guidance on the prosecution of the accused persons.

The court subsequently ordered that both men remain in police custody while investigations and the necessary legal processes continue.

The matter has been adjourned to November 9, 2026, pending compliance with the court's directive and further developments in the case.

Incident raises concerns in community

Meanwhile, the alleged killing has reportedly caused fear and anxiety among residents of Sefwi Awaso, particularly over the safety and protection of children within the community.

The two accused persons remain in police custody as the authorities continue their investigations.

The charges against them remain allegations, and neither accused person has been found guilty by the court.
