A Jasikan Circuit Court has handed down a three-year prison sentence with hard labor to Wisdom Amewuame for unlawful entry and the theft of a Sanya-branded motorbike registered as M-22-GR 5310.
Amewuame pleaded guilty to the charges and requested leniency, prompting the court, presided over by Mr. Lambert Keriga, to consider his plea.
However, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Seth-Vincent Kpodo, who prosecuted the case, urged the court to impose a firm sentence. He reminded the court of Amewuame’s past conviction for a similar crime, emphasizing that he had recently been released from prison.
Following the trial, the court ordered that the stolen motorbike be returned to its rightful owner.
According to the ASP, the complainant, a farmer, and the unemployed convict, reside in different areas of Kwamekrom.
On the night of December 31, 2024, at approximately 9:00 PM, the complainant parked his motorbike on his corridor before retiring to bed. The following morning, January 1, 2025, around 5:30 AM, he discovered that the bike was missing.
After reporting the incident to the Kwamekrom police, investigations led officers to Amewuame’s hideout in Bodada, near Jasikan, where he was arrested, and the stolen motorbike was recovered.
During questioning, Amewuame admitted to the crime in his caution statement to the police, leading to his conviction.
