According to police prosecutors, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested the accused during an intelligence-led operation on November 5, 2025.
A 45-year-old businesswoman, Millicent Asamoah Ampofo, has been charged before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly producing and selling local beverages suspected to contain cannabis.
Millicent, who operates a drinking spot at Taifa, faces a charge of unlawful control of a narcotic drug.
According to police prosecutors, officers from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) arrested the accused during an intelligence-led operation on November 5, 2025.
A search of her premises uncovered:
47 bottles of sobolo
20 bottles of mango drink
23 bottles of unidentified liquids
A blue mini drum filled with liquid
Containers of dried plant material
Bags of powdery substances
180 brown toffees
All items are suspected to have been infused with cannabis, the court was told.
Confession and Bail Conditions
During interrogation, Millicent allegedly admitted ownership of the substances and identified her supplier only as “Richard,” believed to be based in Accra.
She is said to have told investigators that she sold the drinks and toffees at prices ranging between GHC 5.00 and GHC 20.00.
Her plea was not taken, pending a forensic analysis of the seized items by the Police Forensic Science Laboratory.
The court, presided over by Mr Kwabena Kodua Obiri-Yeboah, granted Millicent bail of GHC 50,000 with one surety and ordered prosecutors to file disclosures.
Police say efforts are underway to arrest the alleged supplier, Richard, as investigations continue into what officers describe as a growing trend of drug-laced local beverages in parts of Accra.
