Police in Koforidua have re-arrested 29-year-old Vera Akosua Asare following the death of her boyfriend, Daniel Omane, who suffered life-threatening injuries in an acid attack earlier this year.
The incident occurred in March 2025, when Vera allegedly poured acid on Omane while he was asleep in his room. The two shared a child, and preliminary investigations suggest the attack was motivated by suspicions of infidelity.
Omane's screams for help alerted neighbors, who rushed to his rescue. Vera was reportedly restrained by co-tenants and handed over to the police. The victim was admitted to the Eastern Regional Hospital in critical condition with extensive acid burns.
Following her arrest, Vera was initially remanded into custody but was later granted bail on humanitarian grounds to care for their child while Omane remained hospitalized.
After months of battling complications, Daniel Omane succumbed to his injuries, reportedly passing away just days ago. His death has triggered a fresh wave of legal action, leading to Vera’s re-arrest.
She is expected to face new charges, likely including murder or manslaughter, in connection with Omane’s death. The case is under active investigation by the Eastern Regional Police Command.
